Eco-friendly power transformers help backup batteries go green
Both of those issues have been on the agenda at internet search giant Google recently, where the company has worked to make its data centres eco-friendly and safe.
This has included cutting the amount of oil consumed in its standalone backup generators by two thirds, and putting systems in place to make sure batteries are handled correctly.
A number of Google's US data centres have now received OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001 certification - and the search company is now targeting its European facilities for similar improvements.
While most European firms probably don't have enough influence to work with oil producers on the formulation of their fuels, choosing the right power transformers for your backup supplies can keep your workforce safe if the mains supply is interrupted.
Our standby power equipment uses double-wound transformers that comply with BS171, which specifies insulation levels.
This is important, as any failure of internal insulation can leave power transformers badly damaged and put them out of action for a long time - something to be avoided especially in backup battery systems.
Keeping equipment in good working order also helps it to work at its intended efficiency, reducing any negative environmental impacts during operation.
