Step down transformers keep pace with upscaled biomass production
Tilbury is the location of a 750MW biomass plant - the world's largest - with a start date of late January 2012.
But renewable energy analyst Pike Research points out that most existing biomass installations are 50MW or smaller.
With greater power comes greater current or voltage, potentially meaning step down transformers have more work to do to get the electricity to the desired rated voltage, ready to be sent into the mains supply.
However, as more renewable energy is brought online in the future, the infrastructure to handle all of the additional power will also need to grow.
If you are thinking of installing some form of renewable power - whether it is solar panels, biomass boilers or ground-source heat pumps - make sure you can control its output.
The right step down transformers are a must for larger electricity generators, to avoid overloading your on-site power grid.
With good-quality transformers, you can also be assured of a high level of power quality, so equipment should not become damaged due to power spikes, brownouts or other inconsistencies in the supply.
